  • Course Description

    The purpose of this 40-hour course is to provide a foundation and comprehensive understanding for the role as a SWAT sniper/observer. The role of a SWAT sniper has evolved drastically in recent times due to major events around the country, which has demanded more of an expertise and skill set from the SWAT sniper. Overwatch at large scale/high profile events, public venues, and sporting events has been requested more than ever before. This course will build a solid foundation and expand the knowledge of a police SWAT sniper. Course content includes but is not limited to proper zeroing, building and understanding a DOPE card, unconventional shooting positions, tripod use and deployment, wind reading/calling, long range/overwatch engagements, rapid deployments, gear maintenance/considerations, ballistics, observers’ roles, urban hides, sniper position selection and considerations, and communication between sniper teams/entry and perimeter elements/tactical command elements. This course will also cover de-escalation and how a sniper can assist with intelligence gathering/positioning/plan development to assist the overall command element to plan for a safer resolution. A brief overview on AB-392 and SB-230 and how it could apply in the role of a SWAT sniper.
